I have a matching #s 1968 SS 396 Camaro. Matador Red with a white vinyl top. The interior is red. And this car is all original.
Default Need some help

I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone can help me with. I have a matching #s 68' SS 396 Camaro. The VIN # ends in 300004. I know that this means it was number for off the line for 1968. But could this possibly be the first SS of 68? And how can I find out for sure?

My next question involves the paint code. The # for the Matador Red is correct but the # for the vinyl top is a little confusing. My car has a white vinyl top which should be a 1 on the trim tag. And a 2 should be the number for the black top. My trim tag has a 21 on it. Can someone tell what this is about? Or send me in the right direction to find some info on it? Thanks

Im sorry I cant help you with the numbers, but possibly might be able to help you look in the right direction. Im not sure of Cars101 is on this site...but when it comes to figuring out Vin #s he is the go to guy. Now I know there are a lot of sites that can help you determine what your specific #'s mean in your vin. I would suggest searching for some of those sites. They generally work for the older vehicles much better then the newer ones at least. Sorry I couldnt help more, since im in class right now. But hopefully you can figure something out. Good luck and sounds like a great looking car.
